Taking A Walk Down Memory Lane:

A Reflection of Goal Statements

Taking a walk down memory lane, I am able to look back at my original goals created for application of my master’s degree program. My original goal statement was written on February 26, 2012, and as outlined I discussed three major goals that I had when beginning my Masters of Art in Education degree.  One of these goals was to be accepted into the Michigan State University’s master’s program.  This was and continues to be an easy decision to apply to MSU. The amazing internship experience and the exposure to master’s classes during my internship, gave me confidence when deciding to pursue my masters.

My first goal was to continue my education at MSU. I accredit the intern program in one of many of my professional successes, and I still could not imagine having this much success having gone anywhere else. Having achieved the goal of being accepted into the program, I still look to MSU first when pursuing personal educational goals. With confidence I feel it is the best place to pursue these goals.

My second goal was to pursue this degree in order to help close the deficiency gap that I was seeing in within my school climate. Being a first year teacher, I wanted and needed more experience and guidance to mold my teaching instruction to best serve my students. My main goal was to be the best resource for my students. This goal is still the same. I still strive to continually make myself better and be the best resource for my students. The specifics of these goals are forever changing.

My third goal was to pursue both the literacy and special education concentration in order to become well-rounded. I originally was pursuing both literacy and special education concentrations, however, I tailored my goals into focusing only on literacy education. This is still a prevalent goal within my educational career, however it is ever changing based on what I need to best serve my students.

In conclusion I have seen that my goals have stayed similar throughout my journey to obtain my master’s degree. I still see MSU being the foreground of my success which include the places and people who continually teach me how to become better. I still continue to work to close the deficiency gap with the students I serve. Finally I still strive to become a well rounded teacher, striving to make changes and become better based on the education that I receive.
